This is a free final fantasy xi server based around my personal most nostalgic era for FFXI, 2005-2009. I started as white mage before chaning to ninja after I reached 75, and I have a lot of fond memories. The current game with Abyssea destroyed hte leveling curve and economy, there is no game before end game, so I worked to create a game based around when I enjoyed it the most.
As a sys admin and networking guru, I put the game together on a mini cluster with shared storage. Its powered by 6x quad core xeons and 48gb ram over 3 dell 1950s in a failover cluster. Its storage is hosted by a dell dl380 G5 with 4x 180gb enterprise SSDs in raid10. The internet is a dedicated 150mbit to ensure plenty of bandwidth.
The switch is a 48 port gigabit managed switch by Nortel. Each machine has 6gbps network bandwidth to talk to each other. 99 up time is easily accomplished, to perform hardware upgrades I can perform a live migration to another server in the cluster and no one will know. 95 of quests, npcs, monsters, abilities, and jobs are functioning as they should.
There are a few minor exceptions but everything is still under development. Active forums with downloads and plenty to help you get started.
